GLOVES, GLORY and GOD: The autobiography of Henry Armstrong (1956)

The story is amazing and dramatic almost beyond belief: there are other stories of fighters, but none on fighters like this one, none with its spiritual impact and pathos. What makes the difference is not his genius in the bruising business of professional fighting, but the wistful, haunting calling of “the Holy Voice from somewhere beyond,” the final complete surrendering to Christ, the lifting of his life to God- above the gloves and the glory. (1956)
